Overview
The File Upload module in Ingenuity 7 allows users to quickly import data from Excel, CSV, or other file types directly into the native backend timeseries database of the platform. It is designed to handle both structured data (e.g. production forecast/budget data) and bulk time-series data, automatically creating tags and making the uploaded data immediately available for charts, dashboards, and calculations.
Built from years of custom project experience, it standardizes the ingestion process so users don’t need bespoke workflows for every file format, while still allowing for advanced customization when needed.
Template Imports
The module comes with two default import workflows: one for CSV and one for Excel. The CSV method is ideal for bulk time-series points, such as historian data dumps or high-frequency measurements, while the Excel method is better suited for structured data like production forecasts, targets, budgets, or manual entries across multiple tags.
Auto Tag Creation
Unlike previous versions where tags had to be manually created before writing data, the File Upload module uses enhanced APIs to automatically generate new tags during the import. This means new datasets can be added and made searchable in Ingenuity almost instantly, reducing setup time and administrative overhead.
Error Validation
If a file contains invalid data, such as a string where a numeric value is expected, the module identifies the exact row and column so users can correct the issue. This prevents failed imports from breaking workflows and allows partial uploads when some errors can be skipped.
Instant Availability
Once uploaded, the data is instantly usable within Ingenuity. Users can trend it, apply calculations, set alerts, or combine it with existing historian data.
This immediate integration makes the File Upload module a powerful tool for both backfilling historical records and adding new operational data on the fly.
Custom Workflows
For non-standard file formats, the module integrates with Node-RED ® to create custom ingestion scripts.
These scripts can parse unique spreadsheet layouts, join data dynamically, and write to different back-end databases (e.g., time-series, event logs, or graph stores).
